How to Haul Lawn Equipment Safely on an Open Landscaping Trailer

Riding mowers and zero-turn units should be positioned with their weight centered over the trailer axle, not piled toward the rear. Rear-heavy loading reduces steering control on the tow vehicle. The mower's parking brake should be engaged and the blades disengaged before securing. Ratchet straps attached to the trailer's tie-down rings and looped through the mower's frame provide the most reliable hold, and four-point securement is the right standard for any equipment that will be transported on public roads.

Smaller hand equipment, trimmers, blowers, and related tools should not be left loose on the deck during transport. A secured storage box, milk crate, or cargo net keeps that equipment from shifting or falling onto the road. In McAllen's traffic conditions, particularly on busy corridors like US-83 and Expressway 83, a loose trimmer on the highway is a serious hazard. Securing everything before departure takes a few minutes and removes the risk entirely.
